I Am A Woman
INTRODUCTION:
After birth,
as we grew, we were taught to understand the implication of our gender, the
consequences of making wrong actions and attributes that distinguish you from
the male gender. For some of us, we raised questions, our minds wondered ‘Why
is it so hard to be a woman or a girl, as the case may be?’ But other times, we
uttered words like ‘Thank God I'm not a man'. So we found ourselves accepting
our gender definition when the condition was favorable and appealing, and also
wishing we had made another choice, if we could, as far as gender was
concerned.
May I remind
you that once you cannot accept or appreciate the fact that you came as a
woman, you would always find fault in ‘being a woman', you would never consider
yourself good enough as a woman.
CAN I BE ANYTHING ELSE?
Let's talk
about me for a moment. I am a woman (well, I would define myself better as a
Lady, with respect to age and marital status). But, the list progresses from
there, I am a writer, a minister, a speaker, a counselor, a friend, a sister,
a graduate engineer, a content creator, a leader, reader, etc. The list is
endless, if you would ascribe a word to every character, skill, or role I
possess or play, you would define me as many things. Now, what makes these
roles I play interesting and different for me is that there is an additional
touch or uniqueness available to me as I perform these functions.
IMPLICATION OF BEING A
WOMAN:
Carrying out these roles as a woman
comes differently for me. I examine situations from a perspective that men
don't see, so when we combine our views together, we have a clearer view of the
entire picture. I relate with feelings that may be described as not logical,
but I’m able to feel from a depth not visible to the naked eye. At the thought
of Eve being created as a help for Adam, I find myself grateful for the
opportunity given to women. A woman can be a help to a man, but at the same
time, she receives tremendous assistance in achieving her goals coupled with the benefit of being loved and groomed by a man.
A man who
understands his roles and calling as a lover, a father, and a husband, knows
that the woman given to him is his assignment. Love is beautiful when both
parties accept and perform their functions as laid out by God, and not just
listening to the dictates of society.
“I have
discovered that there is blessedness in being a woman.” One would find it
difficult to accept this unless it is revealed to you by God. All the
attributes and qualities that define us can make the roles we play special and
unique, beautiful, and divine. How is it that a mother can understand the
thoughts of her child that have not been verbalized? How is it that the
encouragement of a woman can stir a man to achieve a thousand goals in a short
period of time? How is it that a mother who is fervent in spiritual things and
sensitive to her creator, is admired by all and desired by many who are either
qualified by this trait or not? How is it that the effect of the presence of
influential women leaders can be visible when the society's development is
examined?
WHY THE SERIES?
All the
articles and write-ups uploaded earlier in this series have pointed to the
benefits of understanding who we are as women, and also enlightened us on how
we can do better. If we were not important, we wouldn’t be here today. Time has
the ability to reveal how relevant or irrelevant a subject is. This subject of
discussion can be said to be relevant in our generation and in our days, this
is why it has been selected and will always be a topic to be addressed.
I suggest
you retrace your steps and study all the articles that have been uploaded,
every topic addressed has a role to play in addressing matters that concern
you.
WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH WOMANHOOD?
This is the question, how will being a woman change your world? What do you intend to do as
a woman? How can you make life better for generations to come? What will be
your contribution to your lineage? How will the world know you came? What will
you do with womanhood? It's a question we must all answer, and a decision must
arise from the answers we provide. It is my duty and responsibility to utilize
every quality and character peculiar to me, for good purposes. I do not desire
that anyone suffers due to my lack of understanding or inability to
purposefully define who I want to be. From being a wife to being a mother, a
leader, a teacher, and all other things we can be, occupying these positions and
maximizing them are dependent on how much we have decided to use our womanhood
for good.
CONCLUSION:
“We can
begin from accepting this gift that the creator has bestowed us with and also
examining his intentions of creating us as one”. We can carry out studies and
discover what great people (as women) have done, that had positive influences
and changes in the world at large. Many of them exist in the Bible, and also in
our days. Many will yet exist even as Jesus tarries. I can only pray that you
and I would be one
of the many
that would give an account of using their womanhood for nothing else but good. I am a woman.
